How to Apply

Inside Wireman Application Process

You can now fill out an apprenticeship application online! During the online application process, you will need to submit your appropriate documentation digitally. Once we receive your completed application with transcripts and a copy of a photo ID, we will process your application for testing. Applications can be submitted at any time online. If you would like to bring your documentation in-person and fill out the application on paper you may call the office at (559) 251-5174, ext.1 to schedule an appointment.

How to Begin

The first step to the application process is to create an online account through our website, then login to your account to begin the application. After doing so, you have 30 days to complete your application in total. There are a couple of steps, they are as follows:

Application Steps

You will be required to complete all steps of the application within your 30-day application window.  This includes completing online forms, required acknowledgements, the GAN Personal Experience Form, and required document uploads. During the application process, some documentation will need to be submitted on two different websites, one called tradeschool, and the other is GAN. Once all documentation is submitted within the 30 days, you will be scheduled for the next available GAN Aptitude written test proctored at the CCETI.

Personal Experience Form (PEF)

Soon after completing your application via tradeschool’s website, you will receive an email from GAN Human Resources with login information to access and complete the Personal Experience Form (PEF). You will be required to support your answers on the PEF by uploading all educational transcripts and relevant documentation. Before accessing the PEF portal, have your supporting documentation available for reference and electronic copies of your document files ready to upload.

You will be required to provide the following information with supporting documentation when completing the form: Work history, including hours worked at each employer; Educational history including number of qualifying semesters completed per course topic; Training history; Military experience if applicable; Involvement in community-based organizations or certificate programs.

Required Documents

Completing this requirement consists of uploading documents that may include: high school transcripts, GED score report, college transcripts, trade school transcripts, and certificate program credentials. Official transcripts are not required, full page copies of all documents are to be uploaded directly through the GAN Personal Experience Form (PEF) portal.   Applicants must provide transcripts to verify successful completion of two semesters of algebra or higher math with a passing grade of C or above.  You will be required to upload documentation that supports your answers for the number of hours you have worked for each employer.  The only accepted documents for work history verification are: current paystub; W2 with paystub, Work Verification Forms or a letter from your employer stating the number total number of hours worked and the nature of the work performed.

Letters of Recommendation

A letter of recommendation is not required, but you are strongly encouraged to upload a letter of recommendation to your PEF to be included in your overall application score. You may upload more than one letter of recommendation but only the highest scoring letter will be factored as part of the final score for ranking. Letters of recommendation must be uploaded directly to your PEF and will not be accepted after your PEF has been submitted.

GAN Aptitude Test Battery

To complete the application process for the Central California Electrical Training Institute, you will be required to take the GAN Aptitude Test Battery. These tests were developed based on skills and abilities required for apprentices in school and on the job. The aptitude test includes: reading, numerical computation, numerical reasoning, paper folding (visualizing three-dimensional space), problem solving, and mechanical comprehension.  Electrical construction knowledge is not part of the aptitude test. Year Round Applications

To be eligible for testing, you must complete your application, including the GAN PEF, within your 30-day application window. Once your application is completed and approved, you will receive an email with instructions to schedule for the GAN Aptitude Test. The Gan Aptitude Test is given monthly and you will be assigned to the next available test upon completion of your application. Applications that are not fully completed within the 30-day application window will be closed and archived.

Test Day and Results

On test day, applicants must present a photo ID at check-in. There is no late admittance into the test session.  Everything necessary will be provided and use of calculators is not permitted when taking the test. After taking the aptitude test, applicants can expect to receive their test score and rank number which will be posted anonymously based on your application number.

JATC Eligibility List and Rank Number

Application scores from 0-100 are factored from the GAN Aptitude Test, Personal Experience Form, and Letter of Recommendation.  Once your total application score has been received from GAN, you are placed on the JATC Eligibility List and ranked by score with all eligible applicants. Hiring into the program is year round starting from #1 (the highest score) on the eligibility list.  Applicants remain on the Eligibility List for up to one year. If you are not hired into the program within one year, your application file will be closed. If you are not hired but still interested in the program, you may reapply.

Application Requirements

In order to meet the minimum qualifications to be accepted into an apprenticeship program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Provide a transcript for high school or post-high school education showing at least one year of a completed Algebra or higher level math classes.
  • If applicable, submit all GED records at the time of application.
  • Submit a DD-214 at the time of application submission to verify military training.
  • Provide an official Photo ID (Drivers License, Government ID Card, etc) at the time of application. After you submit your application, you will need to bring a copy of your Photo ID to the office or mail it.
  • Be able to work for approved employers in Fresno, Maderna, Kings and Tulare counties.

 

Training Schedule

Apprentices may be required to report for on-the-job training assignments anywhere within the jurisdiction of the Central California ETI. The geographic jurisdiction of this ETI consists of the counties of Fresno, Madera, Kings and Tulare.

As an apprentice, periodic advances are presently awarded according to the following schedule:

Meeting the Math Requirement

You will be required to provide documented evidence of successful completion of two semesters of high school algebra (or higher math) with a passing grade of C or better. Qualifying math courses can be evidenced by uploading one of the following documents to the Personal Experience Form (PEF) portal:

  • GED score report and completion certificate
  • High school transcript
  • College transcript
  • Continuing education transcript
  • Trade School transcript
  • Online Tech Math Course through Electrical Training Alliance available at: www.electricaltrainingalliance.org.

Required Documentation

It is recommended you have all supporting documents at hand to reference for accuracy and digital copies ready for upload directly to the GAN Personal Experience (PEF) portal. Required documents relevant to your personal experience might include:

  • Unofficial high school transcript showing graduation date (or transcript to date with an on-track letter from advisor for high school seniors)
  • GED documents with score report
  • Unofficial college transcript(s)
  • Unofficial trade school transcript(s)
  • Paystub showing total hours worked/W2
  • Letter from employer with total hours worked
  • Electrical Work Verification Forms
  • Certificate program credentials or certificates of completion
  • DD214
  • OPTIONAL Letter of Recommendation

Letter(s) of Recommendation (optional)

Letters of recommendation are scored and given precedence in the following order from greatest to least:

  • Union Electrical Contractor
  • Non-Union Electrical Contractor
  • IBEW Union Member
  • Construction Contractor
  • Community Group Member
  • School Official or Teacher
  • Government Official
  • Employer
  • Other

Applicants may upload more than one letter of recommendation to their PEF, but only the highest scoring letter will be factored as part of the final score for ranking.

GAN Aptitude Test Battery

The aptitude Test is held quarterly at the JATC. To be eligible to take the test, applicants must first complete the online application within their 30-day application window.  The GAN Aptitude Test includes:

  • Reading
  • Numerical Computation
  • Numerical Reasoning
  • Paper Folding (visualizing three-dimensional space)
  • Problem Solving
  • Mechanical Comprehension
